About Me

My Journey...

My Favourite Things...

My Favourite Things...

I will spare much of the detail, other than to say that after a wonderful start in life, 2 fantastic kids (now fantastic adults), family, marriage, and a successful 25 year career running a busy chartered accounting practice, the wheels well and truly came off in around 2015, and I could not sustain my basic daily life.

I lost my way and for a long time, I struggled to get back on track. And I have gone off track again many times since then. But it’s all about the journey, not just the destination, isn’t it?

I would not wish a lot of my recovery “journey” on anyone, but on the positive, I have learnt an enormous amount as a result of this period of my life.

About myself. About others.

And getting a better understanding of what is important to me (a thinking we applied in business with our clients).

My most reflective times have been spent solo remote camping in parts of Northern Australia - the Kimberley, Arnhem Land, NT, across the gulf and into Northern Queensland.

I would not be where I am today without all of the experiences during these times. Both good and bad, at times being tested so much more than at any other stage of my life previously.

Now I am living in Broome in the Kimberley region of Northern Western Australia, using these experiences in my daily life, living it the best I can and helping others less fortunate wherever possible.

My Favourite Things...

My Favourite Things...

My Favourite Things...

Well.. where do I start?

  • Loved ones - including my 2 awesome kids (now awesome adults), a wonderful family and great friends - and incorporating an inner circle of those especially close in my daily life.

  • My 3  golden retrievers - Zoey (born 2013),  Paddy (born 2024)  and  latest  addition,  Molly  (born  2025).  Luka (born  2013)  recently  passed  over  the  rainbow  bridge - joining previous goldie companions Ollie and Kelly.

  • Helping others in need of a helping hand.

  • Sitting by a campfire with a clear star-filled sky above.

  • Northern Australia, particularly the Kimberley and Arnhem Land.

  • Fishing and remote camping.

  • Coffee while the sun rises and beer as it sets.

  • Meeting new people, hearing their stories and what makes them "tick" (whilst we may relate initially due to our similarities, it is our differences which make us unique, and we can always learn something from others).

  • Getting distracted by awesome experiences when camping or out in my dinghy (seeing the land from another perspective, watching crocodiles, manta rays, whales, sharks etc etc).

  • Harmless banter and laughs with friends - solving "world issues".

  • Listening to music that tickles your core - be it a new song, or one that transports you back to a particular time or place.

  • Learning about random new things - thanks ChatGPT!

  • Golf (sometimes! :) ).

A Helping Hand...

My Favourite Things...

A Helping Hand...

I have always liked helping others.

But there have also been times during my journey when I needed my chosen charity to be "me".

Now as part of my own wellbeing plan, I have been able to give a "helping hand" wherever possible, including a few charities and clubs that are close to my heart:

  • Previous volunteer role: Feed the Little Children Inc., located in Broome (Committee role) - see www.feedthelittlechildren.org.au

  • Previous volunteer role: Centacare's Homeless Breaklast Program, also located in Broome.

  • Previous volunteer role: Broome Golf Club (Treasurer & Committee roles) - see www.broomegolfclub.com.au

  • "Passing around the hat for a pat" - raising funds with my dogs, Zoey, Luka (who recently passed over the rainbow bridge) and now Paddy for selected charities,  including:

         - Assistance Dogs Australia

         - Beyond Blue

  • Spoke to a Bloke - see www.spoketoabloke.org. I am hoping to participate in my first “Walk for a Bloke” in March 2026 - 25km in Broome humidity. 😀💪

  • AND as a culmination of all of my experiences, including over 40yrs of being fortunate enough to have golden retrievers in my life, a burning desire to help others, and as a way of looking after my own mental health and wellbeing at the same time, I am launching “Broome Therapy Dogs” in December 2025. This service will be provided completely free of charge to those in need. We will also use the profile and presence of the dogs in the community to raise much needed funds for 4 Broome charities working in the areas of the welfare of children, women, men and animals. Please check it out at www.broometherapydogs.au
